Damn the torpedoes (crap reliability and electrical gremlins), I’ll take the S600. I’ve always been more of a Mercedes type guy than a BMW guy. They’re kind of the Ford (M-B) and GM (BMW) of German car manufacturers.

The S-class. Oddly, if this was a decision between the E-class/5-series or C-class/3-series, I'd normally have said BMW, but now that the C-class looks very much like a smaller S-class, I'm not so sure.

The Mercedes has the (surprisingly) simpler and more powerful engine, but the BMW is much better in every other way. For my money, there are few better ways to cover miles in comfort than an E38.

I prefer the styling of the BMW, but the Benz is more powerful, refined, and better equipped by power of being newer. So I’ll take the Benz.

The Bimmer has aged way better. It makes you look stately and refined, where the Benz makes you look like you had a pretty good year in 2001.

I would go with the Merc. I believe the Merc V12 models are a little more dependable and slightly less of a nightmare than the BMW ones.

This is hard....in general, I prefer E38s when it comes to that era of luxobarge, but not the long wheelbase....if it were a short wheelbase, and the Benz were a 500 and not a 600, this would be easy.....considering the Mercedes V12 is vastly superior from what I've heard, and the BMW is an il, I think I'd go with the S600....
